Dimmer for lamps on 555 chip and transistor

A simple brightness controller for halogen lamps with a voltage of 12 volts. The power supply to the lamp is pulsed, so the transistor key will not heat up much, but will be warm, this is when the lamp will shine at full intensity and consume a current of 4.2 amperes with a power supply of 12 volts
I used the transistor from the available ones that I have, it is P45N02LD, I once unsoldered it from a computer board. It is designed for a voltage of 25 volts and a pulse current of 45 amperes. The resistance of the open channel is 20 mOhm, although today transistors with even lower resistance are available
First, we check the pulse signal generator on the 555 microcircuit. We connect the oscilloscope probes to its output and by changing the resistance of the variable or trimmer resistor, we can change the duty cycle of the pulse signal.


You can see how the lamp will glow in one of the extreme positions of the resistor rotor. The current consumption of a 50 W lamp will be about 250 mA
Now the lamp glows at its maximum, but it's better to stay away from halogen lamps
